(New Orleans Jazz)

Do Di Re Ri Mi Fa Fi Sol Si La Li Ti Do (上行)

Do Ti Te La Le Sol Se Fa Mi Me Re Ra Do (下行)

Sol,

.....  So Mi So Mi
Miso

音高 : .....So Mi So Mi
台詞 : .....Mi-so Mi-so

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So.....

(aq) Push Pack for Aftertouch

Ableton Push is an amazing instrument for laying down new musical ideas as well as a performance tool. The Push also has the ability to use Aftertouch. In playing with the aftertouch feature in Live I notices I wanted some specific controls over it. That way I can make the Aftertouch either have a threshold, or delay when it comes in.
I spent a few months creating an Max For Live device to control Aftertouch to get these exact effects. I worked withChris Schlyer and Icaro Ferre to get this device done. They are amazing Max For Live wizards and helped make this a reality.
After a lot of beta testing I have the finished device. Below is a video that walks through the (aq) Push Aftertouch Devices and the massive (aq) Push Pack Pro.
Max For Live Device to Control Aftertouch in Push

(aq) Aftertouch - Threshold

This uses a threshold amount. If you are playing the instrument under this threshold of pressure then the Aftertouch will not be triggered. If you press down harder and pass the threshold, then the aftertouch will be engaged.
The device also uses a Smooth Up and Smooth Down function. This allows you to change how quickly the pressure goes up and down after the threshold giving you a smoother effect.
M4L Delay Device to Control Aftertouch in Push

(aq) Aftertouch - Delay

This Patch was made with filters in mind. With this patch you can delay the Aftertouch signal in manner of Milliseconds. This way when you first play a note it will not engage the Aftertouch, after words whatever it is mapped to, lets say a filter, will then happen. Works great with filter release. This M4L device also has an Attack and Release value. This way you can decide how quickly the Aftertouch effect comes on and releases.

Beat Repeat Effect For Performance

Beat Repeat is an awesome tool for live performance and production. After using it for the last few years I have found a way I like to use it the most in an Audio Effect Rack I built. Basically the standard Beat Repeat has a lot of different increments for repeating, like 1/6, 1/12, and others. I don;t find I like those and rather stay more on the grid for my effect like using the 1/4, 1/8/ 1/16, and so on.

What I did is I took a few Beat Repeats and put them in an Audio Effect Rack. Now when I turn my macro it increases the repeating by turning on the next beat repeater in the chain.  I also have some controls that let me add some cool effects to the sound as well. Like Filter, Pitch, and so on.
Here is a video showing off how I use this Effect and what it can do.
Sign up to be a member of this site and then a link below will appear for free download. This effect Rack was made in Live 9.04 and will work with that and any newer version of Live.
Michael Durek also took this idea and made a version for Live 8! He saw the video and recreated it in 8 and added his own tweaks as well. You can also download this below.

Sound Design and Creating Sound Effects with Simpler

Sound Effects with Ableton Live Simpler
The last few months I have been really into sound design and synthesis. I have stayed up for nights playing with new tools and new ways to create amazing sound effects.  This has been propelled by a few remixes I have been working on and creating unique layers to add to the track.
One technique I developed along the way was how to use Simpler to morph my sounds and modulate the crap out of them to make new dense sounds designs.  I created a very simple to use Instrument rack with a Simpler in it that lets me drag and drop any sample into it to create new effects.
This video will walk through what the device is and how I use it.
You can download the Ableton Pack for free below:
Now go fire those Lazors.

(aq) Forest Fall - Micro Drum Rack

At the changing of seasons from Fall to Winter I had a chance to hide away into the woods for a few days. While I was relaxing in a cabin in Washington I got out my field recorder and captured some amazing samples. I got the sound of wood crackling as it burned, the strange metal warping sounds as the wood stove heated and cooled, as well as a creaking cabin.
I collected these sounds together and made a Drum Rack from there. I call it Micro Drum Rack because they are small hits taken from the original source. Giving it a minimal and glitch like quality.  I also made my first IR samples out in the woods and room of the cabin to create new interesting convolution reverbs.  These use Max For Live. If you do not have Max for Live, then just delete the plugin from the file and the drum rack will still work great.
Download the Live 9 Pack or the original 96 Sample's for use with any DAW below:
During this trip I also grabbed more recordings from the Big Four Ice Caves. I sent the original recordings over toAfroDJMac for him to play with. He ended up crafting a really amazing pack from these recorded samples. Check out his video below and download them off his site.

These packs go hand in hand and create a really interesting blend of electronic sound design, original field recordings, and use of Ableton Live.

High Impact Drums

A lot of time in productions I am looking for a big drum hit. Something impactful to give it an epic and bigger then life sound. I have created a few instrumental tracks to give this deep and large drum sound and wanted to share those with you.
This Live Pack has 3 drum racks each with their own High Impact Drum sounds. They are put into instrument racks so you can pitch them with what note you play making it fit the harmonics of the tracks. I have crafted this to give the best quality sound and can be dragged and dropped into your production.
This is a Live 9.06 Pack and Includes:
  • 3 Custom Instrument Racks
  • 9 original multi samples of the drums.
  • Also for download just the drum samples for use in any DAW.

Inspire Truth NYE

When I am creating music one of the set and settings I have in mind is Beloved. There events always bring out the best parts of music and dance for me. This year I felt honored to be playing some Subaqueous music at the NYE party. Here is the live recording of our set.
Jack Yaguda, aka Guda, and I had been practicing for a few days. He was laying down live sax and tabla for the set. After thinking about this for months we headed down to the venue on NYE.
The decor and everything about the event was immaculate. The second you walked in the door you could see all the work and intention that went into the event. On the first floor there was the Pantheon Stage with a massive light installation, and then to the side the Lotus Lounge.
Midnight with Liberation Movement was amazing. They brought up the energy into this ecstatic trance. Calling in the moment with washes of sounds and ecstatic dance. After Midnight I set up and played my set at the Lotus Lounge at 12:30.
Jake’s sax was an awesome addition and really brought out some smooth dub sounds. The set was the most chilled and sexy set I have played. I was excited to bring out a lot of new music and have jack there to rock it as well.  What an amazing way to bring in the New Year.
Inspire Truth felt like such an auspicious way to bring in the new year.  Dancing with friends, performing for such an amazing group of people, and connecting with other amazing artist was fantastic start. I feel great things coming this year. I have a few releases coming out, more teaching, learning, and ever moving forward in my craft.
2014… the next best ever.

Antonio H Cruz Mystic Flute Samples

I have been in the studio busting out some new tracks and have had the honor of working with many musicians. Recently I needed a flute part to this sexy and dark track I have been working on. I connected with Antonio H Cruz in seattle. He is an absolutely amazing flutist. With a background in Latin jazz he just plays the wind with such smoothness.

To give you a taste check out this track on his soundcloud. Also check out his CD Baby website to get his latest albums.

I collected together some out takes from our session and wanted to share it with you all. Below is a collection of 26 unique and amazing rifts. All done in F Lydian at 70bpm. These are free to download when you are a member of the site, along with massive other free downloads.

(aq) Crunk Kicks

The last few weeks I have been deep at work with new tunes and productions. I wanted to keep this blog going, so I collected a bunch of the new Kicks I am using in my music. Below is a download link for these powerful kicks that have been designed to bring a loud and full punch to your mix.
Check out my Last Free Ableton Kick Pack for more thick kicks to play with. Also if you want to dive more into sub bass I got a cool free Sub Bass Follower in Live as well as an 808 sub bass using a kick

Sub Follower by PerforModule

I've really loved a lot of the free audio effect racks by PerforModule.  We have been talking about doing a guest rack / effect for each other and I was stoked to see what he sent me.
PerforModule put together a Live Pack that has a unique way of adding sub bass by sidechaining it to the Kick. A lot of people use the Sidechain of a Compressor or Gate to take out sub bass. In this case PerforModule is using it to add sub bass.  The cool thing about this is it's also following whatever note you are playing in your bassline. That way the Sub Bass always works with the key your track is in.
Here is an audio example of the effect:
This Rack uses Operator, so you will need Suite to use it. Download this below for use with Ableton Live 9.05 Suite.
I'll be releasing a new Live pack on PerforModule as well, so keep an eye open for that. Hint... It has to do with Kicks.

(aq) Dub Drums

I have always loved the sound of dub, especially the groove found in deep dub. In all my music I have grabbed techniques and sounds from dub. In working on a new track I wanted to get some nice organic sounding drums in Ableton Live. I went back to an old recording I did at London Bridge, where we recorded a bunch of one shots with an antique drum kit. I edited it down to make a complex and adjustable drum rack.
Below is a video that walks through the (aq) Dub Drums. There is also a free (aq) Dub Drums Light for free download after the video. There is also the One Shots and Dub Drum MIDI to download below. These can be used with any DAW.  Check it out, and enjoy this in your productions.

Using AMS Files - Download

In the last few months I have been experimenting with AMS files for Operator.  Operator lets you edit and change the waveform for your patch by drawing them in the user section. You can then export this waveform as an AMS file.

The .ams format is saved to the User Library/Samples/Waveforms (in live 9) folder via an option in the right click (PC)  or  Ctrl click (Mac) menu. Ams can then be imported back into Operator by dragging them from the Browser onto one of the oscillator's display areas. Ams can also be loaded into Simpler or Sampler.

This way if you make a really interesting waveform you can save it for future usage and even drag it into Simpler as a waveform.

I’ve made a collection of 20 AMS files for you to play with. If you are Logged in you can just download these for free and then drag them in your production to play around with them.

Login or Register to download these files for free. (They will show up below)

If you want to dive in a little deeper then check out this free utility for making your own massive library of AMS files.

Installing Live Pack in 8 and 9

Ableton Live gave users a powerful tool to make and install Live Packs. A Live pack is basically a self contained Live Project that has all the files and racks found within it. It can be a great tool to share a track with a collaborator, buy new complex sound packs, or share instruments. This tutorial will run through how to install a Live Pack.
Here is a quick video on this, or the text walk through below itl.
To install a live pack you can do one of two things. First would be to open Ableton Live 8 or 9. Then navigate to the File Menu. There you can choose "Install live pack" and then navigate through the browser to the pack you wish to install. Or you can double click any live pack to automatically open Ableton Live and start installing.

After that you will be asked to choose where to download the Set. It will then install all files and folders to this place. When it is done, the installation window will close and you will be left on the same blank set you started with. You must then navigate with the "File --> Open Live Set --> Where ever the set was downloaded" to open the sets found in the Pack.
When you open this set you can see the instruments, audio effects, or whatever else is in it.  I would also like to point out that you can have multiple Live Sets in one Live Pack. Lets say you have all your drums in one live set, and all the original instruments in another and so on. This can be great for collaboration with multiple versions of a track as well.
I have another note here for Live 9.05 users.  Live 9 sometimes only goes to 67%, or 80%, or even 50% and then closes the installation window. The files have actually completely downloaded, but for some reason it doesn't go to the full 100%.
After you have downloaded your packs have fun using them!
I made a video on managing files in Live 9 that might be useful in understanding the differences in the library of live 8 and 9l.  Also check out my massive library of Ableton Live Packs for unique instruments, custom drum racks, Audio effects, and even my Live performance set
